Ethiopia’s New Draconian Media Law

Bulcha Demeksa, leader of the opposition Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement described the new media law as “draconian”.

“I consider the day on which this law was enacted as a dark day in the annals of Ethiopian history,” he said.

Recently it is reported that International Press Institute aknowledges the lack of press freedom in Ethiopia. One would expect the government would try to improve this bad reputation by implementing the already existing laws but what we are witnessing is even more restrict media law that drew more criticism.
