Capt. Aster Tolossa

4 04 2008

Today, I read on ER about the death sentence of many Oromo fighter-jet pilots.

What’s funny about this court drama is not only the sentences given to these heroes but also the awefully long time it took the judiciary system to get to these point. The propostrous charges of genocide that allegedly took place maybe 25 years ago should not have taken all these years to complete. Justice delayed is justice denied. I don’t know much about the historical and legal issues pertaining to these pilots but this story reminded me of this brave Oromo heroine who became the first female figher-pilot to down an enemy figher-jet in the history of air warfare.

Check the last paragraph on page 10 of this PDF.

Her name is Aster Tolossa and in 2005 she was the topic of this discussion in The Aviation Forum.

I say we need to pop the chardonnay for her and pardon those pilots in the news.

The Economist compares OLF with IRA

4 04 2008

In its latest edition, The Economist says the OLF “will go on fund-raising among their supporters in America, just as the Irish Republican Army once did..” It is interesting that The Economist brings IRA at the time Hillary Clinton is in the hot seat for carelessly claiming taking a role in the Irish Peace Pact her husband helped bring. What makes the OLF’s and IRA’s story similar? Well here is the history of IRA and here is OLF’s mission.

Now my question is, would America help bring CHANGE in the African Horn just like it did in the 90’s with Northern Ireland?
