I read in ER about what kind of ploy the tyrannical Meles regime is using in order to scare Oromos in Arsi zone of Oromia from voting for anybody else but the minority led EPRDF party for the coming sham election that is going to be held in Ethiopia. I am surprised by the kind of comments I read there. It seems that they have forgotten the bestial and reprehensible legacy of Emperor Menelik II while the same atrocious acts of Meles Naziawi is still fresh in their head.
The choice between Meles and Menelik is a choice of a lesser of two evils. Let’s not deny historical facts here.(<— a must read) Menelik has cut off men’s hands in Arsi and women’s breasts. Even worse, he exterminated 5 million Oromos in the process of his conquest.
For Oromos the choice is clear. We’re not going to settle for any Menelik or Meles idolizers. We had enough of the same oppressive and exploitive rule of Habeshas. We want to be the masters of our own destiny in our own autonomous state.
Take it or leave it.
its all about perspective. even as an oromo, it is hard to believe that menelik killed 5 million oromos. even if abyssinians had better weapon, it is not possible to kill this many so we have to ask, what is the motive of the writers of that historical account of mass murder?? after all it was a war, (even if menelik had better weapon) to make it more realistic, maybe we can say menelik killed around 1 million oromos and brave oromos killed around 10,000 abyssinians.
anyway, i support OFDM because i believe the OLF method is outdated and because TPLF is not giving real ethnic federalism. we should all suport OFDM opposition party too.
but that does not make me ignore the reality that meles did not kill 1 million oromos, meles is not cutting arsi women breasts and hands, meles did not ban afaan oromo, meles is not burning lifestock of oromo, and meles has started a shaky multi-party system for the first time in the history of the backward ethiopian empire. so honestly speaking, there is no way meles can be compared to menelik.
at the same time, oromos need equality and real democracy, and OFDM is the just, humane and credible way to achieve that democracy and justice!!!
