From right to left, Obbo Merara Gudina - professor of Political Science and chairman of Oromo National Congress Party, Obbo Bulcha Damaqssa - a successful Philanthropist, pioneer private Banker and manager and currently head of Oromo Federalist Democratic Movement party, Obbo Leencoo Lata - an engineer, a prolific writer, an astute politician who is accredited in drafting Ethiopian constitution, Obbo Dawud Ibssaa - a courageous former OLA commander who led Oromo freedom fighters to Finfinnee back in 1991, he studied Statistics in AAU and currently he is the head of the OLF leadership. These visionary Oromo leaders have been working for advancement of Oromos politically, economically and culturally.
These second group of Oromo leaders are well known for collaborating with Habeshas in good faith. As we have seen time and again, these trusting Oromos sleep with the enemy only to find out later that they are being used to appease Oromos. Former President Nagaso Gidada, who has a PhD in ethnology, learnt his lesson the hard way and later resigned from his post being the first to willingly leave office in Ethiopian history and appologized for all the crimes commited under his watch. But the current President, Girma Wolde Giorgis, who was a parliamentarian in HaileSelassei’s time and took different offices during Durgue regime is still in office eventhough he is mostly a ceremonial figure. Sometimes if he is lucky, he would get a lap dance from figures like Beyonce. Papi is too old so I’m not even going to get mad at him.
Queen Burtukan Midheqsa lately has become the sensation in Ethiopian politics. She wasn’t part of CUD when Kinjit run in the 2005 election. Once the good old Amhara boys found out they don’t have the support of Oromos, they brough Ms. Midheqsa front and center. Ah! She is likable and stands for justice as a young judge and started challenging the status quo. This is when the Amhara elites started calling her “Fexenech” and told her to slow her roll. Some call her “Lady Liberty” but I’m not sure if she is 100% for Oromos’ Liberty but I believe she is a strong woman and she needs to heed the suffering of tens of thousands Oromo political prisoners since she has been there recently. She should also work in order to FREE Oromos from domination, oppression and exploitation.
All these leaders have their own strategy and goal. Some of them are far left others are on the opposite extreme and there are few in the middle. Having a multifaceted strategy is good as long as there is a common understanding and collaboration. The problem I see though is most of the time they block each others way. That should be avoided and more cohesive and synchronized actions need to be taken. That will expedite our victory and freedom.
Tokkummaa!
